Sun Solaris/Unix Administrator

Required Skills:

  • 5- 8 years of experience with Solaris 8 and 9. Experience with Solaris 10 is a bonus.
  • Will work as part of a team to maintain, support, and update UNIX Solaris servers.
  • Solid knowledge and experience with Veritas Volume Manager (Versions 3+).
  • Experience with systems connectivity, networking and hardening. Migration experience a big plus.
  • BMC InCharge Service Assurance Manager, InCharge Availability and Performance Manager, InCharge Open Integration (OI) Module, BMC Perform/Predict - Performance Monitoring, BMC Patrol -OS and Network Management, BMC Patrol Enterprise Manager (PEM), and BMC Control SA.
  • Veritas Volume Manager and NetBackup.
  • Experience installing Sun hardware.
  • Must have expert skills in ClearCase, ClearQuest, database administration and Perl scripting.
  • Experience in Make/ClearMake is a plus.
  • Experience in an environment where Windows systems and Solaris systems must integrate.
  • Candidates must have a thorough understanding of the software/firmware product life cycle.
  • Candidate should have previous experiences in software maturity efforts such as ISO9000, TL9000 or SEI-CMM.
  • Some overnight travel may be required a few times a year. Maintenance work will be performed on Sundays infrequently.

  • Defining and implementing architecture and infrastructure.
  • Developing system specifications and description documents.
  • Configuring and optimizing system components.
  • Ability to perform and analyze results of comparative multi-platform Performance Testing.
  • Ability to monitor and analyze system capacity and performance.
  • Able to quickly diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Capable of Installing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and software.
  • Performing configuration management and risk assessment.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to function well in a rapidly changing environment with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communications.
